Former two-time Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Safuratu AbdulKarim, has defended her recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the ruling party’s performance and developmental strides as her motivation.
Speaking on Saturday during the local government election in Badagry, AbdulKarim declared that the APC “means well” for Nigeria and is demonstrating it through visible achievements.
“Looking well, my defection based on performance has been vindicated,” she stated, expressing confidence in the APC’s governance track record at both the state and federal levels.
AbdulKarim also downplayed the presence of opposition in the area, claiming that Badagry remains a stronghold of the APC.
“There is no opposition in Badagry. The majority of the people here are APC members. Opposition parties have accepted their fate,” she said.
She particularly praised the high turnout of women voters, commending them for their active civic participation.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) confirmed that the council polls were held across 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas. Out of 18 registered political parties, 15 fielded candidates for the grassroots elections.
The polls are seen as a critical barometer of party strength across the state, with the APC looking to consolidate its dominance in the country’s commercial capital.
