Rogue Abuja Police Unit Exposed: CP Crack Team Accused of Extortion, Exhibit Planting

A criminal syndicate posing as a police tactical unit in Abuja has been exposed, following a detailed report by investigative journalist Abdullahi, who shared his findings on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, @kursedShawtie.

According to Abdullahi, the group identifies as the “CP Crack Unit” and operates much like the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), comprising rogue officers stationed around the Jabi-Airport Junction area, particularly near the Gwarimpa Road link bridge.

Abdullahi alleged:
“A criminal group of police officers known as the CP Crack Unit operates discreetly in parts of Abuja. These officers conduct stop-and-search operations, profiling young Nigerians—especially men—and using any item, from a bottle of alcohol to a foreign-looking device, as an excuse to extort money.”

Victims are reportedly taken to a police station in Gwarimpa, which also serves the Lifecamp area. Officers claim their official base is at Abbatoir, a location in Abuja notorious for similar activities.

Gunpoint Extortion and Exhibit Planting

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed further disturbing details, describing the group as “armed extortionists in uniform.” The source said:
“They extort between ₦2 million and ₦4 million daily by harassing and robbing innocent people under the pretext of law enforcement. No court. No records. Instant bank transfers—sometimes while staring down the barrel of a loaded rifle.”

The source also alleged that officers plant fake evidence, such as small wraps of illicit drugs or alcohol bottles, in victims’ vehicles to justify intimidation or arrest.

“They’re worse than robbers. At least with robbers, you know they’re criminals. These ones wear full police uniforms, use official vehicles, plant exhibits, detain, and threaten people,” the source said.

Abdullahi’s revelations have triggered widespread outrage online. Nigerians have called for an urgent investigation into the existence and operations of the so-called CP Crack Unit, tagging the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Ministry of Interior in their demands for action.

This latest report adds to mounting concerns about rogue police units in the Federal Capital Territory, often accused of setting up illegal roadblocks, detaining citizens unlawfully, extorting money, and using threats to enforce personal agendas.

As of press time, efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the FCT Command were unsuccessful. However, several civil society organisations are already mobilising for peaceful protests and preparing formal petitions to the Police Service Commission and the National Human Rights Commission.

The exposure of the “CP Crack Unit” highlights deepening public distrust in law enforcement in Abuja. Citizens are now urging the federal government to prioritise police reforms and end impunity within the force before further damage is done or public order deteriorates.
