Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has turned down an invitation by the state chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kabiru Garba, to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
At a press conference in Gusau on Friday, Garba publicly urged Lawal to join the ADC “for the progress of the state and the country,” adding that doing so would improve the governor’s chances of retaining his seat in 2027.
“I am calling on Governor Dauda Lawal to leave the PDP and join the ADC if he really wants to retain his seat come 2027,” Garba said.
In response, the governor firmly rejected the offer. Speaking to Sunday PUNCH, his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mustafa Kaura, said Lawal had no intention of leaving the PDP.
“Governor Dauda Lawal will not accept the state ADC chairman’s invitation to join the party. He has no intention of dumping his party and will continue to work for the success of the PDP,” Kaura stated.
Reacting to speculation surrounding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s reported plan to join the ADC, Kaura maintained that such a move would not influence Governor Lawal’s stance.
“The Governor has made it clear on several occasions that he will not dump the PDP no matter the pressure. He is a committed supporter of the PDP for life,” he added.
