Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has strongly denied reports suggesting he is plotting to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the speculation as unfounded and politically driven.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Malam Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum labelled the rumour—circulating across sections of social media—as a fabrication orchestrated by individuals seeking attention and attempting to stir political unrest.
“We are aware of a fictitious and mischievous social media report circulating in certain quarters, alleging plans by me to defect from the APC to the ADC, alongside five other governors. This is entirely false and exists only in the imagination of its sponsors,” the governor said.
He described the rumour-mongers as detractors who have made no meaningful contribution to the progress of Borno State or the nation at large.
“It is a classic example of cheap, politically motivated speculation designed solely to distract us and create unnecessary political tension,” Zulum added.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, Governor Zulum reiterated that his focus remains on the peace, security, and development of Borno State.
“My loyalty to the APC remains firm and my dedication is solely to the welfare and progress of Borno State. We have no time for cheap politics; our hands are full with the noble task of rebuilding and developing our dear state,” he asserted.
The governor called on members of the public and media outlets to rely on verified sources and avoid spreading misinformation, especially during sensitive political periods.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to serving Borno State under the banner of our great party, the APC,” he concluded.
Zulum’s rebuttal comes amid increased political speculation across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties begin to strategise and reposition. His statement aims to quell any doubts about his allegiance and refocus public discourse on governance and state development.
