A disturbing video circulating on social media shows residents of Agan, a community within Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, fleeing towards the North Bank area for safety. The incident reportedly occurred along the Makurdi–Lafia road, raising serious security concerns among locals.
According to reports shared by Facebook user Christian Asema, suspected herders opened fire on residential areas around Abagena, including a nearby Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp. Eyewitness accounts suggest that several people may have been killed, although the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed at this time.
“The scene was chaotic. People were running in all directions. Shots were being fired, and many were hit,” Asema posted.
As of the time of this report, the Benue State Police Command has not issued an official statement confirming the attack or the extent of damage and loss of life.
The video has sparked fear and outrage among residents and social media users, with calls growing louder for urgent intervention by security agencies. Many are demanding immediate action to restore safety and confidence in the Agan community and surrounding areas.
