2026 Osun Guber Race Heats Up as Ex-Finance Commissioner Bola Oyebamiji Declares for APC Ticket

The political landscape in Osun State is beginning to shift ahead of the 2026 governorship election, as former Finance Commissioner and current Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, has officially declared his intention to run for governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oyebamiji, who served under former governors Rauf Aregbesola and Adegboyega Oyetola, made his declaration on Tuesday at the APC State Secretariat in Osogbo. He was flanked by a robust crowd of supporters and key figures from the previous administration, including former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye.

After his meeting with the APC State Working Committee, Oyebamiji addressed journalists, acknowledging the calls from the Osun West Senatorial District to produce the next governor. He described the demand as fair and rooted in equity.

“Yes, I am from the West. For equity and justice, we are appealing to our leaders to consider the West Senatorial District so we can balance the political equation in the state,” he stated.

However, Oyebamiji stressed that while zoning is important, competence should remain the ultimate criteria. “Whether from the West, East, or Central, Bola Oyebamiji is competent to run and win the governorship election,” he added confidently.

Explaining his reason for the visit, Oyebamiji said, “I am here today to honour the party’s structure, officially inform the leadership of my intention to contest, and seek their blessing before embarking on any campaign activities.”

He highlighted his strong credentials, noting a career that spans nearly 15 years in public service and almost three decades in the private sector. “I’ve worked closely with top leadership within our party and served the state diligently. If given the opportunity, I am confident I can lead Osun into a new era of growth and good governance,” he affirmed.

As the 2026 election draws closer, Oyebamiji’s entry into the race adds momentum to the APC’s internal build-up and could reshape the dynamics of the contest.
