Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Military Administrator of Katsina State and ex-Senator, Chief Joseph Iorshagher Akaagerger, who died on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the age of 69.
In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, Governor Alia described the late retired Lieutenant Colonel as a “patriotic and committed Nigerian” who served the country and Benue State with unwavering dedication and integrity.
The governor praised Akaagerger’s distinguished service in both the military and politics, highlighting his impactful tenure as Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District (Zone A). According to Alia, Akaagerger was widely respected for his contributions to politics, business, community development, and philanthropy.
“We have lost a voice of wisdom and a dependable elder statesman,” Alia said, noting that the late Senator was an influential member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Forum in Benue State.
He extended heartfelt condolences to Akaagerger’s family, associates, and the people of Benue and Nigeria at large, urging them to take solace in the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.
Governor Alia concluded his statement by praying for the peaceful repose of the senator’s soul and asking God to grant strength and comfort to all those mourning his passing.
