Tragedy in Ifon: Ondo APC Cries for Justice as Party Ward Chairman is Murdered by Kidnappers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has demanded swift justice following the abduction and gruesome murder of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, the party’s Ward 5 Chairman in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area.

The call came after Adepoyigi was killed by suspected kidnappers who had abducted him at the entrance to his farm along the Ifon-Owo Road last week. According to reports, the abductors initially demanded a ransom of N100 million but received only N5 million from the family. In a shocking turn, the kidnappers detained the two individuals who delivered the ransom and demanded an additional N30 million. Ultimately, they released the two men but executed the APC ward chairman on Friday.

The State APC Chairman, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Steve Otaloro, the party urged security agencies to urgently locate and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The All Progressives Congress, Ondo State chapter, expresses profound sorrow and concern over the tragic incident involving our esteemed member, Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi… We urge security authorities to intensify efforts in locating the abductors believed to be hiding in the surrounding forests,” the statement read.

Mr. Clement Ojo, Chairman of Ose Local Government Area, also condemned the killing and lamented the growing insecurity in the region. He confirmed the death in a statement on Sunday, calling it “deeply saddening and utterly painful.”

“While we are thankful that the two volunteers were released, the loss of Mr. Adepoyigi is devastating. He was a loyal party man, and the grassroots will never forget his contributions,” Ojo said.

He further warned that the frequency of abductions—some happening at the doorsteps of victims—underscores the worsening state of security in the area.

Both the APC and local authorities are calling for urgent, coordinated action by all security agencies to restore public confidence and curb the rising wave of violent crimes in the state.
