The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, has assured the people of Yobe State that Nigeria will not relapse into the dark days of Boko Haram insurgency, pledging intensified military operations to sustain peace and security in the region.
During a courtesy visit to Governor Mai Mala Buni in Damaturu on Wednesday, General Oluyede reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding the progress made in Yobe, a state where he previously served as a commander. He revealed that more operational support and troops are being deployed to bolster security and prevent any resurgence of insurgent activities.
The Army Chief emphasized the importance of national unity in tackling insecurity, warning that Nigeria’s continued survival depends on collective action and a united front against threats. He also expressed concern over the escalating instability in the Sahel region, cautioning that its spillover effects could endanger neighboring areas if not addressed.
Governor Buni commended the military’s sacrifices and achievements in restoring peace to the state. He assured the Nigerian Army of the state government’s unwavering support and advocated for a more community-focused strategy in intelligence gathering to enhance the effectiveness of security operations.
General Oluyede was accompanied by high-ranking officers, including the Theatre Commander, Provost Marshal, and Artillery Corps Commander, signaling a unified military front in the fight against insurgency and insecurity across the region.
