Operatives from the Kano State Hisbah Board have arrested 24-year-old Shamsu Yakubu for allegedly performing an obscene act with a she-goat.
Shamsu was filmed in a viral video on social media engaging in the act of licking the animal’s private parts. A resident of Dawakin Kudu local government area in Kano State, he was apprehended on Tuesday after the video circulated on TikTok.
In the footage, Shamsu instructs an unseen person to record the incident. His actions sparked widespread anger among both local residents and social media users.
In the video, Shamsu claimed he performed the act for attention. When questioned, he admitted staging the scene to “to trend” and gain fame on social media platforms.
His behavior has faced strong condemnation from the community, with some residents threatening to take matters into their own hands. However, a local leader intervened, reporting the incident to the Hisbah Board, leading to a swift response.
During initial questioning, Shamsu denied actually licking the goat’s private parts, insisting he merely placed his mouth near the animal. He also stated that it was his first time engaging in such behavior and promised not to repeat it.
The suspect further denied being under the influence of drugs or any intoxicants at the time. Despite this, the Hisbah Board has ordered comprehensive psychiatric and drug evaluations to assess his mental and physical state.
Sheikh Mujahidden Aminuddeen Abubakar, Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, condemned Shamsu’s actions, calling them disgraceful and offensive to Islamic teachings and moral standards. He said, “It is tragic that a Muslim man would subject himself to such a disgraceful act, ignoring all religious and ethical values. This individual clearly lacks any proper understanding of Islam. His pursuit of cheap social media fame has led him into disgrace.”
The Hisbah Board reiterated its commitment to upholding moral values and warned against actions that undermine the cultural and religious integrity of the state, especially those done for attention-seeking purposes.
