Tinubu Governs from Abroad, Set to Return After Easter

Despite being out of the country for nearly two weeks, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains actively involved in national governance from Europe, the Presidency has assured.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu has been directing the affairs of state while abroad and is scheduled to return to Abuja on Monday, April 21, following the Easter holiday.

Onanuga disclosed that the President, who travelled from Paris to London over the weekend, is “fully engaged in governance” and maintains regular communication with top government officials.

“President Tinubu has issued clear directives to security chiefs to respond to recent security threats in some parts of the country,” the statement said, titled ‘Statement on President Tinubu’s Return to Nigeria’.

The Presidency reiterated that the President’s absence is temporary and falls within the previously communicated timeframe, emphasizing that the administration continues to function effectively in his absence.

“The President’s dedication to his duties remains steadfast. Governance is ongoing without disruption,” Onanuga stated, urging Nigerians to remain calm.

He added, “President Tinubu left Paris for London at the weekend and has been in constant communication with key officials, overseeing vital national matters. His return to the country is scheduled immediately after the Easter holidays.”

While no specific reason was given for the President’s stay in Europe, his current trip follows a pattern of international working visits since assuming office.

The statement also appeared to address growing criticism from the opposition, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who questioned Tinubu’s extended stay abroad amid rising insecurity, particularly in Plateau and Benue states.
