Midnight Inferno Engulfs 12 Shops in Ibadan: Firefighters Battle Blaze for Hours

A fierce fire outbreak late Thursday night destroyed no fewer than 12 shops in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The incident occurred around 10:55 PM at Block A, No. 64, Mayegun Cement Store Market in the Araromi area, near Agodi-Gate, Hobnob News reports.

Eyewitnesses said the fire burned intensely for over three hours before it was finally brought under control by the Oyo State Fire Service. The blaze reportedly resulted in the loss of goods and property worth several millions of naira.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was sparked by an electrical surge that occurred near highly flammable materials.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, stated that the agency received an emergency call at exactly 11:02 PM.

“Our control room was alerted by a Mr. Young at 23:02 hours on Thursday, April 10, 2025,” Akinyinka said. “Firefighters were immediately dispatched, and upon arrival, they found multiple shops engulfed in flames. Swift action was taken to contain the spread and protect surrounding properties.”

Despite the extensive damage to 12 shops, Akinyinka emphasized that the timely intervention of the firefighting team helped save properties valued at billions of naira. The team concluded operations at 3:18 AM and remained on alert for any further emergencies.
