BREAKING: Supreme Court Boots Out Abure, Declares His Tenure as Labour Party Chairman Expired

In a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court on Friday ousted Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, effectively ending his claim to the position.

Delivering a unanimous judgment, a five-member panel of the apex court overturned the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had recognized Abure as the party’s national leader.

The Supreme Court ruled that the appellate court acted beyond its jurisdiction, emphasizing that internal party leadership disputes are not within the purview of the judiciary.

According to the court, the matter was strictly an internal affair of the party and thus not justiciable. It also held that the appeal brought forward by Senator Esther Usman and another party member was valid and had substantial merit.

In addition, the court pointed out that Abure’s tenure as chairman had already lapsed, reinforcing the decision to dismiss the cross-appeal filed by his faction of the Labour Party.

Hobnob News will bring you more details as they unfold.
