President Bola Tinubu has stepped in to resolve the lingering crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, meeting with 40 lawmakers, including Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and Mojisola Meranda, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Sources close to the meeting revealed that the discussion was fruitful, with Tinubu reassuring the lawmakers that everyone’s interest would be protected.
The meeting was seen as a crucial step in addressing the crisis, which had been ongoing since Obasa’s impeachment on January 13. He was later reinstated on March 3, following the intervention of the Lagos ruling All Progressives Congress and the Governing Advisory Council (GAC).
During the meeting, Tinubu urged the lawmakers to put aside their differences and work towards the best interest of Lagos. The lawmakers, in turn, showed their loyalty to the President by singing “On your mandate, we shall stand,” a popular lyric used by Tinubu’s supporters.
While Obasa declined to comment on the outcome of the meeting, a member of the Assembly revealed that the President had resolved the issue, and everyone was set to face their legislative assignments in the best interest of Lagos.
The Spokesman of Lagos APC, Seye Oladejo, also confirmed that the President had succeeded in resolving the matter among the lawmakers, although he didn’t provide details of the outcome.
The intervention of President Tinubu has been seen as a positive development, with many hoping that it would bring peace and reconciliation among the lawmakers. As one GAC member, Bashorun Olorunfumi, noted, “If the intervention of President Tinubu would bring peace and reconciliation among the lawmakers, that is a very good development.”
