Bandits Kill Scores in Midnight Attack on Ondo Farming Settlement

A devastating attack by bandits, described as armed herders, has left several people dead in ‘Aba Sunday,’ a farming settlement in Ondo State’s agrarian belt. The survivors, still reeling from the attack, recounted the harrowing details of the midnight assault, which occurred on Saturday.

According to the survivors, the bandits stormed the community, which borders Edo State in Akure North Local Council, unprovoked, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Four communities within Ala Elefosan, identified as Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, Ademekun Camp, and Aba Alajido Camp, were invaded and attacked, resulting in the deaths of scores of farmers.

One survivor, John, who was shot in the hand, reported that at least nine bodies were retrieved, and many residents were forced to flee into the surrounding forests. Another survivor, Solomon Simon, corroborated John’s account, stating that the attack occurred around 2:00 am, and two of his friends were killed in the house.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Wilfred, visited the scene of the attack and the surviving victims, ordering the deployment of the command’s homicide department to the area. Afolabi urged the public to promptly inform the police of incidents as they occur and verify reports before dissemination to avoid causing panic in the state.
