The Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum has categorically denied reports that its members are supporting a potential 2027 presidential ticket featuring former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi. In a statement issued by the Forum’s Director General, Emmanuel Agbo, the PDP Governors Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, declared that the party’s governors will support any aspirant who wins the party’s ticket.
The Forum condemned previous reports suggesting that five PDP governors were backing the El-Rufai/Obi ticket within the All Progressives Congress, labeling them as “unpleasant and provocative publications.” The statement emphasized that the PDP Governors Forum does not align with such actors and will not engage in discussions or agreements regarding the alleged ticket.
Instead, the Forum reiterated its commitment to supporting the party’s eventual flag-bearer in the 2027 elections. “As disciplined leaders and stakeholders, the PDP Governors will wholeheartedly support whoever emerges as the flag-bearer of our great party in the battle to wrestle power from the non-performers at the centre,” the statement read.
The PDP Governors Forum also emphasized its commitment to the party’s principles, including equity, social justice, sincerity of purpose, accountability, and the enhancement of the lives of Nigerians. The Forum stated that it will not allow “enemies of progress and agents of confusion” to mislead the Nigerian people.
