The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has announced the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner in 16 local governments in Saturday’s election. According to Dr. Joseph Aremo, Chairman of the Commission and Chief Returning Officer, the APC also secured all councillorship seats in the 16 local government areas.
The election, which saw 12 political parties participate, was held for positions of chairman, deputy chairman, and councillors in the 18 local government councils. However, the results for Owo LGA and Ondo West LGA were cancelled due to the incorrect logo of one of the parties on the ballot papers. These results are expected to be announced later today, at 7:00 p.m.
Notably, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) withdrew from the election 48 hours prior, citing a lack of confidence in ODIEC’s ability to conduct a credible and fair election. Despite this, several other parties participated, including Action Alliance (AA), Labour Party (LP), Action Peoples Party (APP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), among others.
