The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the promotion of 1,419 junior officers. This was confirmed by NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada in a statement on Wednesday. The decision was made during the 10th Management meeting, presided over by Comptroller General, Bashir Adeniyi.
The promotion list includes both General Duty and Support Staff officers who performed exceptionally in the 2024 promotion exercise. Specifically, 346 General Duty officers and 384 Support Staff members were promoted from Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC) to Inspector of Customs (IC). Four General Duty officers and 13 Support Staff moved from Customs Assistant I (CAI) to Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC), while 372 General Duty officers and 59 Support Staff were promoted from Customs Assistant II (CAII) to Customs Assistant I (CAI). Additionally, 188 General Duty officers and 54 Support Staff were elevated from Customs Assistant III (CAIII) to Customs Assistant II (CAII).
This strategic advancement highlights the NCS management’s focus on transformative leadership under the direction of CGC Adeniyi. “By prioritising career growth as a cornerstone of workforce motivation, his administration inspires a culture of excellence, empowering employees to achieve their full potential and driving the organisation toward unparalleled service delivery.”
In his congratulatory message, CGC Adeniyi encouraged the newly promoted officers to intensify their efforts in fulfilling the core mandates of the Service, which include revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and trade facilitation. Furthermore, the promotion list for senior officers is currently being processed, awaiting approval by the Nigeria Customs Service Board.
