The Lagos State Government has announced a 3-month closure of the Marine Bridge to facilitate urgent repairs. Starting Wednesday, December 4, 2024, and lasting until Tuesday, February 25, 2025, motorists are advised to follow alternative routes to ease traffic flow during this critical rehabilitation project.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
- From Apapa to Lagos Island:
- Route 1: Pass through Costain Roundabout, link Eko Bridge, and proceed to Lagos Island.
- Route 2: From Apapa, use Ijora 7Up via Marine Bridge, take the ramp to Ijora Causeway Access Road through Ijora Oloye, and connect to Eko Bridge to reach Lagos Island.
- From Apapa to Ijora Causeway/Iddo:
- Route 1: Link Costain Roundabout, access Eko Bridge, then connect Ijora Causeway and proceed to the ramp through the U-turn to Iddo.
- Route 2: Use Ijora 7Up via Marine Bridge, access Ijora Causeway through Ijora Oloye, and connect to Iddo.
Traffic inbound to Apapa from Costain Roundabout will remain unaffected throughout the repair period.
Government’s Plea for Patience
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized that this diversion plan is part of efforts to support the Federal Ministry of Works in rehabilitating the bridge’s asphalt pavement. He urged motorists to exercise patience and adhere to traffic guidelines to ensure seamless navigation during this time.
