The Edo State Government has announced the immediate suspension of all consultancy services and related providers across its public service.
Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has authorized the suspension, which will affect all ongoing financial transactions and engagements with consultants and service providers.
According to a communication issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, “all financial transactions and related services with affected consultants and service providers are to be put on hold immediately.” This move will remain in effect until the Governor’s Review Committee, which has been established to assess the matter, submits its report.
The directive emphasizes the need for compliance from all government agencies. Ikhilor stated that “all Accounting Officers, Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies are expected to take note and comply strictly with this directive.”
This action follows increasing scrutiny of public service spending and is intended to streamline operations and ensure accountability within the state government. The suspension highlights the Governor’s commitment to reassessing the role and effectiveness of consultancy services in the state.
The Review Committee, which has been tasked with evaluating the consultancy services, will provide recommendations that could lead to changes in the management of external consultants within the Edo State Government. Further updates will be provided once the committee completes its report.
Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, confirmed that all relevant authorities have been informed of the suspension and are expected to adhere to the new directives.
