Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collection activities across the state, especially in motor parks. This suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
According to Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the suspension applies to all individuals and groups previously authorized to collect revenue on behalf of the state government. “The collection of revenues in the state has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the state government will be arrested,” Governor Okpebholo stated.
To ensure enforcement, the Governor has directed the State Commissioner of Police to arrest any individual who defies the order. “The Commissioner of Police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts the order and collects any kind of revenues on behalf of the state government,” Okpebholo added.
The Governor also assured the public that the suspension would allow for a review of the current revenue collection process. “The Governor will soon address the issues and concerns raised and will issue new directives shortly,” Itua stated.
This decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to address concerns about revenue collection practices and ensure transparency in the state.
