In response to the escalating violence and insecurity caused by marauding herdsmen and bandits in Naka and its environs, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor, the Executive Chairman of Gwer-West Local Government Council, has issued a ban on all thanksgiving services, political, and social gatherings in the area.
The decision comes as a result of the numerous killings and kidnappings along the Naka-Makurdi road, which has turned into a death trap for residents. The community has been plagued by these attacks, leading to protests by youths and Okada riders, thereby creating a tense environment.
In a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Police Command, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor emphasized the need to take proactive measures to prevent a breakdown of law and order in Gwer-West. The ban on social gatherings is intended to safeguard the lives and properties of the people in the region.
The Executive Chairman has called on all relevant authorities, including the Executive Governor of Benue State, the Divisional Police Officer in Naka, and the Department of State Service in Gwer-West, to enforce this directive effectively. Additionally, religious leaders and the Chairman of the Okada Riders Union have been notified of the ban.
As the community grapples with the ongoing insecurity, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor has assured residents of his commitment to addressing the challenges and maintaining peace and order in Gwer-West.
