It is with profound sadness that I, Amb Dr Dennis Aikoriogie Edoimioya, mourn the passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, who departed this life on November 5, 2024, at 56, after a brief illness in Lagos.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Army, the Lagbaja family, and the nation on this immense loss.
General Lagbaja’s demise came as a shock, and his absence will be deeply felt, especially at this critical moment when his leadership and expertise were needed the most.
A distinguished military icon, General Lagbaja had an illustrious career spanning over three decades, marked by exceptional service, discipline, and strategic leadership.
Appointed Chief of Army Staff in June 2023, he served in various key roles, including General Officer Commanding Headquarters 82 Division and Headquarters 1 Division. As a prestigious U.S. Army War College alumnus, General Lagbaja brought invaluable expertise to the Nigerian Army, inspiring countless officers and men.
His legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
We pray that General Lagbaja’s soul rests in peace and that his family, particularly his wife, Mariya, and their two children, find comfort and strength during this difficult time.
May General Lagbaja’s memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
