Makinde Hints at 2027 Presidential Run, Slams APC’s Performance

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has dropped a hint about contesting the 2027 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) . Speaking at the commissioning of the PDP Southwest zonal secretariat, named after late Soji Adagunodo, Makinde criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing Nigerians.

“The APC has been at the helm of affairs in this country, and they have woefully failed us,” Makinde stated. He emphasized that Nigerians must decide whether to retain the APC in power or vote them out, highlighting the need for change.

Makinde described the 2027 election as a referendum on APC’s governance, with Nigerians taking center stage in the decision-making process. On PDP’s internal conflicts, he urged leadership to take decisive action, warning that “the enemies of the party are within.”

Regarding his presidential aspirations, Makinde said, “Current realities will guide my choices.” This statement comes as Nigeria faces mounting challenges, including petrol price hikes, electricity tariff increases, and naira devaluation, which have significantly impacted the country’s population.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke echoed Makinde’s sentiments, stressing the need for unity and honest discussions to heal party rifts. Meanwhile, PDP’s acting national chairman, Ambassador Illiya Damagum, praised PDP governors for showcasing the party’s values.
