#EndBadGovernance Protesters File Preliminary Objection, Seek School Fees Compensation

The #EndBadGovernance protesters, who were arrested and charged with treason, have filed a notice of preliminary objection, asking the trial judge to decline jurisdiction in the case. The protesters are also seeking an order mandating the complainant to pay their school fees until at least senior secondary school or university level, citing compliance with various constitutional and international provisions.

Meanwhile, a recent development in the case saw the Federal High Court grant bail to 76 protesters who participated in the August 2024 demonstration. Justice Obiora Egwuatu set the bail at N10 million for each adult protester, while requiring parents of the minors to take their children on bail .

However, Deji Adeyanju, counsel to the protesters, expressed concerns that the stringent bail conditions have resulted in the protesters being taken back to prison custody. This comes after four youths among the 76 defendants collapsed during their trial, causing a stir in the courtroom.

The #EndBadGovernance protest began on August 1, 2024, and concluded on August 10, with demonstrators demanding better governance. The Federal Government arraigned 10 leaders and organizers of the protest, charging them with treason and attempting to destabilize the country.
