In a surprise move, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Ajaero was taken into custody while preparing to board a flight to the United Kingdom, where he was scheduled to attend the Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference. The reasons for his arrest remain unclear, but sources indicate that he has been handed over to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) for further investigation.
The NLC President’s arrest has raised eyebrows, particularly given his high-profile position and the fact that he was traveling for an official assignment. The circumstances surrounding his detention are still unknown, and it is unclear how this will impact his participation in the TUC conference, which is set to take place today.
