In a tragic incident, a 57-year-old Indonesian grandmother, Hapsah, was fatally attacked by a massive 16-foot python while working on a rubber plantation in Muaro Jambi, Sumatra. The snake attempted to swallow her whole, wrapping its body around hers, causing her to suffocate. Despite her desperate struggles, Hapsah was overpowered and lost consciousness due to lack of oxygen.
Her husband, M Safri, raised the alarm when she failed to return home in the afternoon. He searched for her and discovered the snake still coiled around her neck. With swift action, M Safri pulled on the snake’s tail and hit it until it released its deadly grip. Unfortunately, Hapsah had already succumbed to the attack.
The shocking incident sent the local community into a state of distress. A mob of villagers hunted down and killed the python in retaliation. The snake’s massive size was evident as it was displayed in the village after being killed. Hapsah’s body has been returned to her family, and funeral preparations are underway.
This tragic event marks the second fatal python attack in Indonesia this summer. Just days earlier, another elderly woman from Palopo City fell victim to a serpent attack in the Sumarambu mountains. The incidents have raised concerns about the dangers posed by wild animals in the region.
