Gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen, have brutally murdered the Labour Party Chairman in Igumale Ward 1 of Ado Local Government Area in Benue State, Mr. Sunday Oche. The attack occurred while the deceased was returning from his farm with five others, who narrowly escaped with severe injuries.
According to a close friend of the victim, the group had visited the farm on Monday and was ambushed by armed herdsmen while returning around 4:30 pm. The assailants flagged them down and shot Mr. Oche, who died instantly. The other five individuals attempted to flee but suffered serious injuries. They managed to escape, abandoning their motorbikes.
Local youths rushed to the scene after learning of the attack, but the perpetrators had already fled, leaving behind the victim’s body. The deceased is survived by a wife and two children. His body has been recovered, and funeral arrangements are underway.
The Benue State Labour Party Publicity Secretary, Tersoo Orbunde, confirmed the incident and expressed support for the grieving family. The police have been notified, and an investigation is pending.
