A call has been made to Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia to resist the influence of politicians who may be using his name to promote agendas that undermine democratic practices in Benue State.
In a statement, concerned stakeholders cautioned the governor against listening to self-proclaimed leaders who may be manipulating decisions for their personal benefit, potentially damaging his relationship with the people.
The stakeholders specifically highlighted the importance of honoring zoning arrangements in the chairmanship positions of Kwande, Konshisha, Ushongo, Vandeikya, Katsina-Ala, Makurdi, Gboko, and Buruku local governments.
Imposing caretaker chairmen who do not align with these zoning arrangements could harm future electoral processes, they warned.
The stakeholders urged Governor Alia to consult with local aspirants and ensure that their supporters remain engaged and encouraged, rather than imposing his preferences.
They called on the governor to reject any advice promoting imposition and to honor the democratic principle of allowing the people to choose their local government leaders.
