The Benue State House of Assembly Committee on Education has emphasized the need for stakeholders to submit to the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management.
Rt. Hon. Cephas Dyako, Committee Chairman, made this declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting on August 28, 2024.
The meeting addressed issues such as the unrealistic school fees regime, arbitrary collection of monies, and the proposed e-dossier and school demolition.
Dyako frowned upon the collection of monies without accountability and encouraged stakeholders to report such incidents to the house.
He also dismissed the idea of implementing e-dossier without ICT facilities in schools and assured that schools will not be demolished.
Honorable Commissioner for Education, Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, highlighted the need to review the current school fees regime, which has been in place since 2016.
Stakeholders, including representatives from various associations and unions, accepted the proposed review and pledged their cooperation to the ministry.
The meeting concluded with the Committee Chairman assuring stakeholders that their inputs will be taken seriously and compiled into a report for presentation to the house.
The stakeholders appreciated the ministry’s proactive and accommodating leadership, and the meeting alleviated most of their fears.
