NLC President Ajaero Returns to Labour House After Honouring Police Invitation

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, visited the police headquarters in response to allegations of terrorism financing, subversion, and cybercrime.
The accusations stem from the #EndBadGovernance protests held from August 1 to 10, 2024. Ajaero was accompanied by his lawyer, Femi Falana, and human rights activist Deji Adeyanju.

At the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) office, Ajaero was joined by other top labour union officials and representatives from various unions, including the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), National Union of Telecommunication Employees (NUPTE), and the Radio and Television and Act Workers Union (RATTAWU).

NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, addressed the gathering, criticizing the Federal Government for “chasing shadows.” He mocked the notion that Ajaero was ever on the run, emphasizing that the labour leader willingly presented himself to the authorities. The group departed the NLC headquarters around 10:00 am.

Ajaero’s visit was a response to police invitations regarding the alleged crimes. The labour leader’s cooperation demonstrates his commitment to transparency and accountability. The NLC and its affiliates continue to advocate for good governance and workers’ rights, undeterred by the accusations.
