_Government Urges Resident Doctors to End Strike_

The Federal Government has appealed to the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to call off their seven-day warning strike. Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made the plea during a visit to the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, stating that negotiations are ongoing to secure the release of kidnapped doctor, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola.

Alausa assured that the government and security agencies are working tirelessly to rescue Popoola, who has been held captive for nine months. He emphasized that the strike would only worsen the situation and urged NARD to call off the industrial action.

The minister revealed that kidnappers have been changing their demands, but security agencies are working hard to ensure Popoola’s safe release. He appealed to NARD to end the strike and pray for Popoola’s safe return.

Despite the government’s plea, the Chairman of NARD at the National Eye Centre, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed, confirmed that the strike is still ongoing, with medical and dental consultants joining in solidarity. The strike is a directive from the national body, and its continuation may exacerbate the situation.
