The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of German coach Bruno Labbadia as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s Senior Men National Team.
The NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed the appointment, stating that the NFF Executive Committee has approved Labbadia’s recommendation by the Technical and Development Sub-Committee. The appointment is effective immediately.
Labbadia, a former player who won two caps for Germany and triumphed in the German Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in 1994, boasts an impressive coaching record. He has managed top-tier clubs like Hertha Berlin, VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg, Hamburger SV, and Bayer Leverkusen, holding a UEFA Pro License.
As the sixth German to lead the Super Eagles, Labbadia joins notable predecessors like Berti Vogts and Gernot Rohr. His immediate challenge is to guide the three-time African champions through the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches, starting with Benin Republic in Uyo on September 7th and Rwanda in Kigali on September 10th.
Labbadia’s appointment marks a new era for the Super Eagles, and the NFF is optimistic that his experience and expertise will propel the team to success in the upcoming competitions.
