_Court Approves Extended Detention of 124 Protesters_

A Federal High Court has granted the police permission to detain 124 individuals arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protest for an additional 60 days. The court’s decision allows for the suspects to be held while the investigation is ongoing.

The judge ruled that the detained individuals, including minors, be held in a correctional facility’s Borstal Home until the investigation is completed. The police had submitted an ex-parte motion requesting the extension, citing the need for further investigation and legal counsel from the Attorney-General of the Federation.

The suspects, aged between 14 and 34, were accused of engaging in acts of terrorism, treason, and arson, among other charges. The authorities alleged that their actions violated various sections of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022 and other relevant statutes.

A testimony from the Litigation Secretary for the Legal and Prosecution Section of the Intelligence Response Team supported the motion, stating that the suspects were reasonably suspected to be complicit in the crime and were found carrying Russian flags and slogans agitating for the sovereign invasion of Nigerian territory.
