Benue Governor Needs Community Cooperation to Tackle Insecurity, Says Expert

The lingering insecurity in Benue State has been attributed to a lack of community intelligence collaboration, making it difficult for security agencies to effectively tackle the menace. According to a security expert, the complexity of the insecurity situation in the state, fueled by political, religious, and intra-tribal factors, requires the cooperation of community members to share intelligence and support security agencies.

The expert noted that disunity within communities and the refusal of some members to report planned attacks or provide information on perpetrators’ hideouts hinder security efforts. Even with a strong military presence, attacks can continue if community members do not want peace.

The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has been urged to engage with community leaders and encourage intelligence sharing to combat insecurity effectively. Political motives and selfish interests should not be allowed to undermine the quest for peace, the expert added.
