How 20-year-old Student Faked Kidnap, Demanded Over $700,000 Ransom – Lagos Police

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered an apparent staged kidnapping involving 20-year-old Collins Ikwebe and five schoolmates.

A social media post by a friend of one of the suspects had claimed:

“I’m locked up in Ikeja Police Station… Someone faked his kidnapping and requested ransom from his dad.”

The friend, 888 @FlackoT, expressed concern about facing a lengthy legal process.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin while confirming the incident said:

“Our investigation established that Collins Oluchukwu Ikwebe faked his own kidnap.”

The scheme involved multiple ransom demands, with sums ranging from $500,000 to N30,000.

According to him, Detectives busted a Lekki apartment where Collins and five schoolmates had been staying for 10 days.

Police says investigation is ongoing, with none of the suspects exonerated yet.
