The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is gearing up for a nationwide strike action following the Federal Government’s failure to meet its outstanding demands. The union has issued a three-week ultimatum to the government, which expires soon.
The demands include the implementation of the 2012/2013 Memorandum of Understanding and the 2017 Memorandum of Action, the release of withheld salaries, payment of earned academic allowances, and the adoption of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) instead of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
ASUU has been mobilizing its members across various zones and will appraise its actions before deciding on the next step. The union has expressed frustration over the government’s disregard for their concerns, and a nationwide strike seems imminent.
