The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the permanent forfeiture of properties worth over N11.14 billion and N1.04 billion belonging to the former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to the Federal Government.
The properties, mostly located in highbrow areas of Abuja, were suspected to have been bought by proxy using proceeds of fraud. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleged that three CBN staff members were named as Emefiele’s accomplices in the alleged fraud.
The EFCC had earlier obtained an interim forfeiture order, which was not contested by any party, leading to the permanent forfeiture order. The EFCC was also ordered to publish the order in a national newspaper.
