The Nigerian Army has destroyed several vessels used for illegal oil bunkering in Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the army operatives set ablaze eight large Cotonou boats at Isimmiri Waterside, following an intelligence report. The General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Maj.-Gen. Hassan Dada, led the operation and announced the arrest of six suspects, who have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigations and prosecution.

The army’s action is part of Operation Udoka, aimed at preventing economic sabotage and protecting the country’s economy. The suspects had attempted to siphon crude oil from a pipeline before their arrest.
