The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has successfully dismantled illegal crude oil refining sites operating in cemeteries in Abalama and Oproama Communities, Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Rivers State. The NSCDC’s Marine Anti-vandal Squad achieved this feat after a four-hour operation, uncovering the illegal bunkering sites through sustained intelligence.
Superintendent Olufemi Ayodele, NSCDC spokesman in Rivers State, expressed concern over the criminals’ new tactic of using cemeteries for illegal oil refining. Several boats loaded with illegally refined crude and diesel were discovered, but the perpetrators fled upon sighting the NSCDC operatives. Ayodele assured that the Marine Anti-Vandal Squad is in hot pursuit of the hoodlums to ensure their arrest and prosecution.
This operation demonstrates the NSCDC’s commitment to combating oil theft and illegal bunkering activities in the Niger Delta region, in line with the Commandant General’s directive to enhance intelligence and operational efficiency.
