The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, to appear before it to answer questions on the recurring train derailments on the Abuja-Kaduna railway corridor.
This follows a motion of urgent public importance moved by Rep. Umar Ajilo (PDP-Kaduna) during Tuesday’s plenary session.
Ajilo expressed concern over the frequent incidents, noting that rail transportation is considered the safest mode worldwide.
He cited two recent derailments, including one on June 5, 2024, which left many passengers stranded. The House aims to investigate the causes of these incidents and ensure the safety of passengers on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line.
