A Gombe State High Court has sentenced Aliyu Mohammed to 12 months in prison for a land scam worth N4.8 million. Mohammed, a former staff member of NITEL/MTEL, was found guilty of intent to defraud by obtaining the sum from Lacachika Nigeria Limited and Captain Lamolohguhe, claiming it was payment for a landed property in Kaltungo, Gombe State.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted Mohammed, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
The prosecution counsel, S.E. Okemini, requested a conviction and sentence, while the defense counsel appealed for leniency, citing Mohammed’s first-time offender status. Justice Abdulhamid Yakubu convicted and sentenced Mohammed to 12 months in prison.
