The Cross River House of Assembly has removed its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ekom Ayambem, from office through a successful impeachment motion.
The motion was initiated by Hon. Effiom Ekarika, representing Calabar South 1 Constituency, and supported by Hon. Omang Charles Omang, representing Bekwarra State Constituency.
Following the impeachment, the members took possession of the mace, a symbol of the Speaker’s authority.
Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem was first elected as Speaker of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly in June 2023, representing Ikom 2 State Constituency.
