Several shops at the plaza were completely gutted by the fire, with smoke billowing out from the building as onlookers watched in shock.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started in one of the shops and quickly spread to other parts of the plaza. The firefighters worked tirelessly to put out the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
There were no reported casualties from the incident, but many shop owners have suffered significant losses due to the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Engr Taiwo Oluko said that the immediate cause of the fire is unknown, however, investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause.Notably, the complex is said to have been sealed off by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and relevant agencies for thorough investigations.
Officials are urging residents to stay away from the area to allow the firefighters and rescue workers to do their job effectively.
The Lagos State Government has assured the public that measures are being put in place to prevent future occurrences of such disasters.
