Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 elections, has declared his endorsement for the party’s candidate in Edo, Olumide Akpata, ahead of the September gubernatorial election.
This announcement follows a split among his supporters, known as the “OBidient Movement,” regarding their choice between Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, and the Labour Party’s Akpata Olumide.
Speaking on X Space hosted by Parallel Facts on Friday, Peter Obi praised Akpata as “a very credible candidate” and encouraged his supporters to offer their full support to the former NBA President.
The former Anambra Governor also pledged to campaign for the LP flagbearer once the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially commences the election campaign.
“I’m still in the Labour Party, and it’s important for me to support our candidate in Edo (Akpata),” he confirmed when asked to clarify his position on Edo politics.
Recently, Akpata held a private meeting with the Labour Party’s national leader.
