Benue State Government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has commenced the distribution of essential food and non food materials to displaced persons who were impacted by the invaders in the state.
The Acting Executive Secretary of Benue State Emergency Management Agency (Benue SEMA) on behalf of the State Governor performed the distribution exercise today Wednesday 27th March, 2024 at Benue SEMA headquarters, Makurdi.
Flagging of the exercise, the Acting SEMA boss stated that the distribution of the food and non food materials is targeted Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps and those who were recently displaced in Kwande, Katsina – Ala, Ukum, Apa, Okpokwu, Agatu and Guma among other affected communities.
Sir. James Iorpuu explained that the gesture was part of Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia in the spirit of both Easter and a continuation of routine food assistance to displaced population affected by armed herdsmen and other forms of disasters.
The Ag. Benue SEMA boss commended Governor Alia for consistently responding to the plights of IDPs, assuring that all the relief materials will reach them before Easter celebration.
The assorted food items ranging from thousands of bags of rice (25kg) beans (25kg) maize (25kg), garri (25kg) hundreds gallons of red and vegetable oil (20 litres) as well as bags of sugar, salt, noodles.
Non food items (NFIs) distributed include Mattresses, detergents and soap among others.
