Senator who accused Tinubu and the National Assembly of N3 trillion budget padding backtracks, says he was misquoted

Senator Abdul Ningi, representing PDP-Bauchi Central, has accusing President Bola Tinubu of managing two separate budgets for the year 2024.

This claim had originated from an interview he purportedly gave to the BBC Hausa Service, where he spoke on behalf of the Northern Senators’ Forum.

According to the BBC report, Ningi alleged that the National Assembly had approved a 2024 budget of N25 trillion, contrasting with the N28.7 trillion being implemented by the federal government.

However, when speaking with journalists on the same day, Senator Ningi clarified that he had been thoroughly misrepresented and expressed his surprise at the unexpected twist of events.

He emphasized that he did not make the statement attributing different budgets to President Tinubu and emphasized the need for accurate reporting of his remarks.

Ningi also said he was not representing the Northern Senators Forum as reported, but spoke in his personal capacity.

In his words:

“With the press release I saw in the media yesterday, I am taken aback.

“At no time did I say Bola Tinubu is implementing two budgets. There was no time. At no time did I say Bola Tinubu was biased against the north.

“At no time did I say Bola Tinubu is implementing N25 trillion budget. There is no way I will talk about N25 trillion and N28 trillion,’’ he said.
