Benue Government Issues 14-day Quit Notice To Herders Over Public Grazing

The Benue State Security Council has issued a 14-day ultimatum to herders violating the state’s anti-open grazing law, instructing them to cease rearing animals outside ranches.

Governor Hyacinth Alia who chaired the meeting, emphasized the enforcement of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Law (2017).

A seven-man committee has been formed by the government to ensure compliance with the directive, with herders urged to leave the state.

The council also called for citizens’ calmness, heightened security consciousness, and collaboration in reporting those inviting armed herders.
