Niigeria’s activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, has shed light on his decision to decline an invitation to join the Labour Party due to ideological differences.
In a heartfelt video, lasting just under two minutes, Sowore shared his insights on why he refrained from associating himself with the Labour Party. He outlined that the party’s ideology resembled that of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he believed strayed from his own vision for Nigeria.
Sowore particularly highlighted the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, and expressed concerns over his alleged plans to remove fuel subsidies, echoing recent efforts by President Bola Tinubu. The activist’s opposition to such a move stems from his belief that it would exacerbate the economic struggles faced by Nigerians.
Sowore, who has consistently championed socio-political change, has previously clashed with the APC and PDP, accusing both parties of perpetuating a system that benefits political elites at the expense of the citizens they represent.
