Three persons that included a policeman, along with two civilians – a woman and another man were allegedly kidnapped on Tuesday along the Naka-Makurdi road.
The kidnapped victims were said to be returning from a burial ceremony when they were ambushed by the kidnappers who whisked them away.
The abductors were reported to have opened contact with relatives of the victims and demanded the sum of N1.7 million.
It was gathered that the incident happened around 4 pm at Ahume along the Naka-Makurdi road.
Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area, Andrew Ayande who confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday said that the area is notorious for criminality.
Ayande informed further, “This incident happened yesterday (Tuesday), you know we lost one prominent person around the place a day before yesterday (Monday) and they took the corpse home yesterday (Tuesday). The people (hoodlums) came as usual as they have been doing and they attacked the people in one of the vehicles.
“A policeman and two others were kidnapped around Ahume at about 4:00 pm, the vehicle the victims were riding in has been taken to Naka police station,” the LGA chairman added.
When asked if the abductors had open contact with relatives of the victims, Ayande who answered in affirmative confirmed that, “The abductors were demanding N200,000 from the police family, N1 million from the woman and they also demanded N500,000 from the other victim.
When contacted, the State Command spokesperson, Catherine Anene said she had yet to receive the report.
